The children’s animated series Bechos has been shortlisted in the Best Web Series category at the 24th Mestre Mateo Awards, the Galician audiovisual awards whose gala will take place on 21 March in Lugo.

Produced by Undodez for Televisión de Galicia, the series further consolidates its trajectory within animation aimed at early childhood audiences, reinforcing its commitment to Galician-language content designed for young children. The episodes are currently available on xabarin.gal, the Xabarín app and the CRTVG YouTube channel.

The first season is directed by Andrés Mahía, while the second is directed by Laura Mahía (who also serves as animation director for both seasons). Bechos was originally created by Sofía García and Saúl Rivas. The series also features scripts by Andrés Mahía, Saúl Rivas and Patricia Castrillón, with original music by Santi Jul and Iván Laxe.

Designed for children aged 3 to 6, the series follows the adventures of four friends — Xurxo, Catuxa, Xiana and Margarida — who meet in the park every day to play, share and discover the world around them. Through their stories, the series addresses values such as respect for nature, friendship, emotional awareness and the importance of recycling.

A consolidated journey

This new nomination marks another step in the trajectory of a series that was already a finalist in the same category at the 22nd Mestre Mateo Awards. In that edition, it also received the Deleite Award for Language Promotion, recognising the importance of high-quality audiovisual content in Galician aimed at children.

Since its premiere in 2023, Bechos has maintained a consistent commitment to animation made in Galicia for early childhood audiences. In 2025, the series expanded its universe with a second season, introducing new episodes and settings while preserving the essence of its characters and the educational, close-to-home approach that defines the project.

Since its debut in 2023, Bechos has established itself as a benchmark in Galician children’s animation, demonstrating the importance of creating original content designed for early audiences. Its evolution across two seasons confirms the project’s ability to grow while continuing to deliver educational values and a strong commitment to the language.
