Nena tells the story of a family disrupted by the death of the mother, a loss that places the responsibility of the household on the shoulders of a twelve-year-old girl. Through this premise, the short film explores care, the absence of shared responsibility, and the persistence of gender roles within the family sphere, building an intimate and deeply human narrative.
Filmed in Mondoñedo and premiered on 23 August 2023 at the Castelo Conta festival, in Xosé A. Touriñán’s hometown, the short began an intense festival journey from that moment on. Over the past months, Nena has been selected in more than fifty festivals around the world.
This path has been accompanied by wide recognition from both juries and audiences. The short film has already collected more than twenty awards, including Best Short Film prizes at festivals such as FIV Vilafamés, Festival de Cine Curto de Ribadeo, Curt-Movies Barcelona and FICINDIE, as well as awards for directing, Antía Touriñán’s performance, and technical achievements, especially cinematography.
Starring Antía Touriñán alongside Carlos Blanco, David Perdomo and Xosé A. Touriñán himself, Nena is a production by Undodez and Mordisco Films that has established itself as one of the most notable recent Galician short films. The project continues to gain selections and awards throughout 2025, confirming its strong reception and the enduring relevance of a story that resonates with diverse audiences.
