The 23rd edition of the Mestre Mateo Awards, organised by the Galician Audiovisual Academy, already has its winners, and Recollendo Músicas, produced by Undodez, is among them. Shortly after half past midnight last night, directors Álvaro Gago and Jaione Camborda announced the winner of the Best Programme category, in which the format premiered by Televisión de Galicia last autumn received the highest number of votes from academy members.
The directors of Recollendo Músicas, Saúl Rivas and Borja Casal, collected the award on the stage of the Lalín Arena accompanied by the programme’s production team, Laura Canto, Miguel Vázquez and Laura Sixto, as well as members of the Einibó team, Adolfo Fernández and Lucas Lombardía, responsible for directing the production. During their speech, they highlighted the significance of sharing the category with other programmes, Cinephilia, Cos pés na terra and Nosoutras, “where culture, ethnography and tradition are at the core”.
“Without our language we would not be Galician, but without our music we would be something very different from who we are.”
They also thanked all the artists and associations who preserve “the enormous heritage that is our traditional music and oral literary tradition”. Saúl Rivas explained that the role of the programme’s directors was to listen with respect and a willingness to learn.
Borja Casal dedicated the award to all the artists and groups who took part in Recollendo Músicas, highlighting “the legacy of our informants, mostly women, who for decades shared their emotions through song”.
