The documentary To the rhythm of the new regueifa continues its public journey with a new stop in Vedra, where it will be screened as part of the MARCO Festival programme. The session will take place on Friday, 8 May at 12:30 pm at the Sociocultural Centre, as part of a programme that combines reflection, practice and creation around rural life.
Organised by the MARCO Cultural Association, the festival celebrates its second edition from 8 to 10 May with a format that explores the relationship between architecture, culture and community. Far from being conceived as a strictly academic gathering, the festival is designed as an open space where professionals, artists and local residents share experiences, knowledge and creative processes. This year’s edition focuses on ethno-pop culture and water architecture, with special attention to mills as spaces of memory and contemporary activation.
Within this context, the presence of To the rhythm of the new regueifa connects directly with the spirit of the festival. Directed by Manolo Maseda and Saúl Rivas, the film offers a journey through the present-day reality of regueifa, exploring the links between oral tradition and its current forms of expression. Through a journey across Galicia, the documentary builds a collective narrative featuring regueifa performers from different generations, highlighting the diversity and vitality of this practice.
The piece approaches regueifa as an art form in transformation, situated between heritage and innovation, between rural and urban settings, and between oral transmission and new educational spaces. Improvised verse, music and personal testimonies intertwine to create a multifaceted portrait of a tradition that continues to reinvent itself in the present.
The screening forms part of the ADREDE (Networked Art and Design) section, one of the festival’s core strands, which brings together artistic projects, exhibitions and actions that reinterpret the territory through contemporary languages. The directors’ presence at the session will also create an opportunity for dialogue with the audience about the creative process and the themes explored in the documentary.
With this new screening, To the rhythm of the new regueifa continues to consolidate its presence at festivals and cultural programmes, reinforcing its role as a tool for the dissemination and renewal of one of the most distinctive expressions of Galician oral culture.
